What Does Life Want From Me?

An unknown author once said, “Rather than ask, ‘What is it I want from life?’ you should ask instead, ‘What is it life wants from me?’”

That’s a very different question, isn’t it?  The second question comes from a deeper place, what we call our soul or spirit.  It points to one of our values at MAX of being spirit-centered.

Often we need simple reminders in our lives to help us “tune in” to this deeper place in the midst of all the busyness and pressures.  It may be helpful to keep a list of brief reminders that you review regularly and try to incorporate into your daily life.

A few of the things that might go on your list are:

  • Have a positive, hopeful attitude
  • Help others
  • Be kind to myself
  • Have more quiet times each day
  • Commune with God
  • Be slow to judge
  • Love more
  • Listen well and try to talk less
  • Be slow to anger
  • Try harder not to worry
  • Forgive
  • Cherish friendships
  • Be thankful
  • Appreciate the little things
  • Accept responsibility

Each list will look a bit different. We often make life very complicated. But it comes down to our ability to control our thoughts and keep them focused in ways that tune us in to what really matters and to what life is calling us to be and do.  And when we live our lives from that context, we can truly be enriched.
