5 Reasons to Enjoy the Outdoors
Summer is the perfect time to head outside to enjoy the great outdoors. But aside from being a fun way to spend our time, outdoor activities also can provide some surprising benefits.
Researchers at Kent State University say there are many advantages to outdoor activity:
Mental. Outdoor recreation can prevent or reduce stress, as well as improve self-esteem, confidence and creativity. It also can help aid spiritual growth. In addition, the outdoors add exhilaration, adventure and challenge to our lives.
Physical. There are plenty of outdoor activities offering opportunities to build aerobic, cardiovascular and muscular fitness. These activities also help improve our immune systems.
Social. What better way to enjoy the outdoors than with a friend?
Economic. People who more regularly participate in outdoor activities are more likely to be productive at work. In addition, outdoor recreation offers job opportunities and preservation of natural areas for outdoor recreation increases property values.
Environmental. The more time we spend outdoors, the more environmental awareness we develop, and thus, may lead to more involvement in environmental issues.
Next time you head outside to enjoy nature, you’ll also be improving many other areas of life.
