MAX Goes Green All Year Long
Earth Day may only fall once a year on April 22, but at MAX, we’re doing our part all year long to be more earth-friendly and socially responsible with our green initiatives.
For instance, as we roll out our new policy and claims administration software, we offer our members the option to opt-in for electronic policy forms, reducing paper waste. They also can receive policy credits for upgrades to new technology as part of our equipment breakdown coverage. Members also can pay their premiums via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) or credit card, which saves mailing envelopes and checks.
Our agents receive their commission payments via EFT, and we strive to ensure that approximately half of all agent correspondence and documents are sent electronically instead of regular mail. Most of our agents receive training via webinars, reducing the need for travel. Our agent electronic policy processing system also eliminates paper waste.
We’ve also made changes in our offices. Many of our staff members telecommute, thereby reducing commutes and office space in our headquarters. We provide a recycling program for paper, aluminum cans, plastics and toner cartridges. We also use energy-efficient light bulbs, fixtures and LCD monitors. We’ve replaced old copiers and printers with more efficient ones that default to two-sided black and white prints. These machines also help us do more in-house printing to avoid outsourcing. Instead of disposable Styrofoam cups, we use coffee mugs. We receive and send faxes electronically, and use electronic document management for member files, company invoices, employee expense reports and board materials, eliminating the need for paper copies.
